Kingston upon Hull , also know as Hull, boasts of rich history since its founding in the late 12th century. A home to vibrant traditions of arts and culture, the city has several theatres and museums of national importance. Its theatrical tradition is centuries old, and many prominent writers and actors lived in the city. Due to the fact that Hull’s artistic heritage attracts tourists from many countries, the city was named UK City of Culture in 2017. 1. Hull Fair:
The Hull Fair is the city’s biggest and perhaps the UK’s oldest tradition having celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1993. It attracts rides, attractions and travellers from all parts of the country. The Europe’s biggest travelling funfair arrives in Hull every year for one week. It is annually held from Friday through Saturday encompassing 11 October, excluding Sunday. The fair is held in the Walton Street car park, adjacent to the KC Stadium.
2. The Freedom Festival:
This festival which is falls between 2nd and 4th September in 2016 is a visual treat. Hundreds of performers showcase their music talents while the audience revel in joy celebrating freedom in all its forms. It is arguably the best free festival of the UK. From adults and teenagers to children, people of all ages have a great time. Almost 30,000 people flock Hull’s streets to enjoy the concerts.
3. The Hull Folk Festival:
For those who love the English folk music, this festival is a paradise. Drawing an audience of over 10,000 it features performances by more than 50 bands. Its highlight is that the concerts are organised in a variety of pubs and historic barges such as the Syntan Barge.
4. Hull Comedy Festival:
Stand up comedy is the large part of what made this festival a huge success. It features live shows by some of the biggest names in comedy. Audience also get to see the finest of the local talents. Founded by the local businessman John Gilbert in 2006, this festival witnesses growing numbers of audience every year. Since 2007, one of the performers is being presented with the Tenfootcity Comedian Of The Year award.
5. The Hull Global Food Festival:It is visited by approximately 125,000 people from around the country. Celebrating the art of cuisine, it is an unforgettable experience for food lovers. This festival also brings a huge revenue to the city every year.
In addition to the seemingly endless list of museums, theatres, pubs and historic monuments, Hull has excellent parks and green spaces.
