1) Home To Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was actually a resident of Croydon. He even featured the city throughout some of his Sherlock Homes mysteries. Even though Croydon is currently known for its trams, back in the early 1900s it was the forefront of transport innovation for several years. As a matter of fact, the world’s first public railway was established in Croydon and Croydon Airport was one of the first airports in the world to offer commercial flights. Interestingly enough, the airport was also the first to introduce the concept of air traffic control as well.
